Most companies are obsessed by like for like figures and what has just happened in their business. Their other biggest focus is the future. Where are we going? What are my sales forecasts? What’s our vision?
Now versus The Past and Future
The past and the future are extremely important and measuring and managing couldn’t exist if we didn’t look back and look ahead.
What about now?
As part of my coaching practioner course I’m reading about Gestalt. According to The Gestalt Centre, “Gestalt practitioners help people to focus on their immediate thoughts, feelings and behaviour and to better understand the way they relate to others. This increased awareness can help people to find a new perspective, see the bigger picture and start to effect changes.”
Perhaps there is more value in looking at the now, this day in November. What is happening for you now, right now? If we seek less to look ahead or behind but deal directly with the now and this deeper understanding of the present brings about change or reduces the resistance to change.
Focus on that and you are more likely to connect to your immediate thoughts, how you are feeling and what you need in your work and life.
For many years I’ve been an actions man! The challenge to all coaches, managers and leaders must also surely be in helping the people in your team to raise their awareness and understanding of what they are doing at this time and how it is affecting what they do and what they affect.
